The
Fox Stratos FS 1000 Reel is the culmination of
an intensive three year development programme.
For years carp anglers have been looking for a
compact, stylish reel which can cast long
distances. Stratos is the answer thanks to
it’s large machined spool (which measures
almost 60mm in diameter and 30mm in length) coupled
with a body which is smaller than almost any other
reel in its class. To achieve this, the
internal gearing had to be designed and engineered
from scratch using the latest Dynamic Profiling
software. Stratos uses a Mesh-Tech gear train
which has been critically balanced to achieve the
ultimate degree in gear meshing resulting in a
smoother more powerful, play free mechanism.
If
you want to cast the distance, line lay is
critical. Stratos has a Supa-Slow Gear Cycle
and an incredible 22 rotations of the bail arm are
performed per oscillation of the spool. In
tests this proved to be a 300% improvement on some
models. But what does this mean in
practice? Each turn of the bail arm puts a
‘coil’ of line on the spool. During
a linear oscillation the Stratos lays 22 coils of
line on the spool (11 up and 11 down) in slow
consistent manner which stops bedding in and improves
casting distances. The Stratos is packed with
features, but to appreciate how good it really is:
pick it up; turn the handle; load it with line; then
cast with it.
