A favourite venue of mine in the winter months is the prolific Abbey lakes complex in France,in particular Attila lake, it doesn't hold the biggest fish on the complex but its always been kind to us in previous winter trips and a better than average chance of a 40+. This trip was going to be a 72hr long weekend and it wasn't long untill the first one was in the net. My companion for the session Sam landing a cracking 35lb mirror in the first hour. The next flurry of activity came in the early hours of Saturday morning when I landed four fish up to a low thirty.

Baiting up was definitely the key, we spombed regularly day and night with a mixture of freshly prepared hemp, sweetcorn and the Hinders Little Gemz Pellets and fish a selection of 10mm Mainline Fluoro Pop-Ups over the top using rigs constructed from a host of Fox Edges terminal tackle. The second day started with a bang, firstly Sam landed another mid thirty along with a couple of 20's and I managed a stunning 37lb common followed soon after by a new french PB for me in the shape of a 53lb 2oz mirror, absolutely over the moon!!! The Sunday night and into Monday saw no more bites from my swim but Sam managed to finish the trip in style bagging  2 x 28's a 29 and a brace of 41lb mirrors, superb stuff. In all we ended up with one double,10 twenties, 4 thirties, two 40's and a 50.What an awesome venue !!!

Till the next time........Andy
