I have just got back from a 4 night session at Abbey lakes in France. It was a last minute trip in which after a quick call to the venue I found out there was a space on Heron lake.A day later and I was back at one of my favourite venues after the short journey from Calais.

Once at the venue I chose peg 12 as most areas of the lake were covered by anglers. I had not fished peg 12 before so it was lucky that my Dutch pal Jerone was on hand to give me the low down, and soon the rods were placed on the spots.

Tactics were atomic tackle choppa droppa lead system on a lead core leader rig of 25lb jel e wyre and size 6 Haula hooks with a blow back ring and shrink tube kicker. Hook baits were Mainline Cell Hookbaits trimmed to take half a Mainline Banoffee Pop Up. This rig was fished in a solid bag with Mainline response pellet and Mini Combo and 3mm Halibut Pellets and few chopped Mainline Cell Boilies.

The first take came amazingly after 20 minutes which soon saw me land a 25lb+ mirror. During the first 3 nights I managed to land 14 fish to 33lb+ but I needed a lump to make the trip a real success. The last night I landed 3 more carp to 49lb 2oz which was a perfect end to the trip and made the trip home a very happy one!
