Brian Skoyles is well known in the Carp Angling World having caught a number of huge carp both in the UK and abroad. Brian is a consultant for Daiwa and Nutrabaits. Brian is a huge fan of our French Mix and always uses it to great success when he goes fishing in France.
If something works, then there is no need to change it, which is probably why I’m still using the French Mix. I’ve lost count of the number of sacks of French mix that have crossed the Channel in the back of my car. If ever a product has stood the test of time it has to be the French Mix. For those of you considering the French Mix for the first time ….

French Mix Ready to go!!!
It was nearly twenty years ago that Bill Cottam and I started to use a particle combination for our French fishing. That combination was Groats, Flaked Maize, and Parti-Blend. What we were looking for was a particle mix that was easy to prepare, highly visible, with the potential to hold fish in the area. The Groats soaked up our attractors, the Flaked Maize settled lightly on the bottom, very easy for the fish to see, and the Parti-Blend contained many tiny food items, difficult for fish to eat quickly. Other key ingredients to complete the picture, are the liquid attractors, that the Groats can soak up and carry to the bottom.

My long term favourites are evaporated milk (see picture above), which gives a lovely cloud in the water, and Nutrabaits Multimino which is highly attractive to fish as it spreads out and settles on the bottom. It doesn’t have to be either of the above, and these days there is loads of scope to pick and mix your attractors from all the major bait companies.
Preparation is easy. Two thirds fill a bucket with dry French Mix, add your chosen attractors, and fill the bucket up with lake water. Leave for twenty-four hours. In hot weather that is all you need to do, in the colder months, just boil it up, then allow to cool. At this point you can add to the attraction even further by adding crushed up boilies, pellets etc and a second top up of liquid attractors. The French Mix spods well, is perfect for use with a bait boat, but my favourite application is from a rowing boat. I love drifting over the area I’m fishing, and using a scoop to scatter the mix far and wide. This big spread really does seem to hold fish in the area and encourage them to move around and feed.

The other really good thing about the French Mix is that the fish don’t seem to get fed up of it, and I’ve used it repeatedly on the same waters and it has continued to be very effective. If you are looking for an easy to prepare, tried and tested particle mix to back up your other baits, then the French Mix could be your answer …. It’s certainly mine!

More success using French Mix
