My Trip to Rock Lakes by Liam Hodges

Me and my mate Sam Goddard and his dad Neil recently took a trip to Rock Lakes in France for a week session.   We had heard some great reports of the place from a fellow angler who spends a lot of time out there and decided to head out there and find out for ourselves. The first thing we did when we got to the lake was to be given a guided tour of the lake by the owner Carly Hart. He showed us where the best spots on each peg were, after looking at all of the pegs Sam and I chose to go on the double swim called ‘The Beach’ and Neil went in the ‘House Swim’ next swim to us. We all started of by using snowman style rigs with a new fruity  bait that I am currently testing for Hinders and and the old favourite Blitz Boilies. We started off really well with me having a 26lb Common Carp which was then followed up by a 19lb Mirror both falling to the new bait on Snowman Rigs with about 30 to 40 whole boilies and a load of crushed boilies. Later that day Sam had 37.2lb Mirror Carp and Neil had a low 20lb and a few doubles all fish falling to the same method. Overnight there had been good results as I had a few doubles and also a few catfish with the best weighing in at 33lb 4oz. Sam had yet an other mirror carp weighing in at 33lb 7oz and Neil had few more doubles all falling to Blitz and the new fruity bait.

There was not much action through the day but the night was more productive with Sam having another 30lb and a double and Neil having a 27lb and 2 upper doubles. I was also in the action with 3 catfish and a 23lb.8oz Common Carp. By the 4th day I was getting plenty of Catfish so I had to think of something else to use. I ended up using Carp Krunch and Maize on all of my rods as soon as I started using it I started catching carp. Sam and Neil were catching a few carp between them and also a few cats. So far Sam had caught at least a 30 lb carp every night he had been there he was also using the fruity bait and a particle mix  which consisited of Carp Krunch and Chopped Tiger Nuts delivered by bait boat. I was catching more catfish due to the fact I was fishing against a reed margin where the catfish were clustered. By morning on day 5 Sam had another 33lb10oz Common Carp and Neil had a Catfish and a mid twenty Mirror Carp and a double,I had a couple of low doubles. Later that morning my luck had changed I went stalking at the far end of the lake behind the back of the island I chucked a few handfuls of Pellet Combo in and a handful of maize left it for about 10 minutes and then cast about out.  A couple of minutes later I was playing a fish I got it in and it was a cracking 30lb 6oz Mirror Carp. I went back to the same spot later that day and had a 24lb Common Carp. Sam and Neil had been quiet all day but during the night we all had few fish I caught 4 including a 32lb 14oz, 26lb 7oz,21lb.3oz and a low double. Sam caught a 27lb12oz and 29 while Neil caught a 19,26lb 12oz and a low double. Later Sam had a 32lb 2oz and I lost a couple of massive cats that was it bar a few little ones but all in and all it was an amazing trip and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going to France. As you can see from our results below the fishing was excellent and Carly was a great host.

Our results at Rock Lakes were me with twenty carp and 13 cats, Sam with 10 carp including 5 thirties and also 3 cats and Neil having 14 carp and 7 cats.
